Understanding BAC (Blood Alcohol Content)

Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is a measure of the amount of alcohol in your bloodstream. It is expressed as a percentage. For example, a BAC of 0.08% means that there are 0.08 grams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood.

BAC Levels and Effects

0.00 – 0.03% Mild euphoria, relaxation, slight mood elevation
0.04 – 0.06% Feeling of warmth, relaxation, mild impairment of reasoning
0.07 – 0.09% Slight impairment of balance, speech, vision, and control; legally intoxicated in most states
0.10 – 0.12% Significant impairment of motor coordination and judgment, slurred speech
0.13 – 0.15% Major impairment of motor skills and judgment, blurred vision, loss of balance
0.16 – 0.20% Dysphoria, nausea, disorientation, possible anxiety or emotional swings
0.21%+ Severe motor impairment, memory blackout, risk of loss of consciousness. Medical emergency above 0.30%.
